In this context, the government has specially deployed geological experts to find out clearly where the water is coming from.
Intercurrent flow from Mallelatheertham Waterfalls
According to the research conducted by the geological team, an internal flow has been identified coming from the Mallelatheertham waterfalls located above the tunnel accident area. The study revealed that naturally flowing groundwater from nearby areas is reaching the tunnel area. Experts revealed that these water streams are further complicating the rescue operations.
Ursu Vagu and Malle Vagu, which are close to the tunnel area
Moreover, experts have estimated that the Ursu Vagu and Malle Vagu, which are close to the tunnel area, are also flowing heavily, causing water to continue to flow into the tunnel. The water from these two streams is reaching the tunnel through underground channels. The study revealed that the accident site is about 450 meters above the top of the tunnel.
The authorities are considering various ways to control the situation. Experts are suggesting that appropriate measures be taken to reduce the flow of water. Apart from expediting relief efforts, the government is also taking steps to ensure that such accidents do not occur in the future.
